'Thainess' no excuse for bad driving | Bangkok Post: opinion

Six people died in this bus, after the farce of repeated promises by state authorities to regulate buses like these. (Post Today photo)Call me a pessimist, but I am certain 2017 will be another bad year for road safety. At checkpoints, they keep examining registration plates, driving licences and modified vehicle parts while letting reckless or potentially dangerous drivers get away with unsafe or aggressive driving. We were stunned by the high death toll during the dangerous New Year holidays, when more than 470 people were killed in road accidents nationwide. While we know recklessness is a major cause of road accidents, the fact is the state is still unable to fix the problem.
